Like last year, there will be an Early Bird Raffle drawing for a gun.  People who purchase tickets prior to  February 1st will be eligible to enter the drawing.  However, we recommend that you don’t wait until February to purchase the tickets.  They may got last.

Tickets should be available in late October.

2016 Youth Activities

St. Clair County Pheasants Forever sponsored two BB gun shooting events this summer.   We brought in and manned the PF State Shooting Trailer for Pine River Conservation Club’s Youth Shooting Day.   We signed up 19 Ringneck memberships during the event.  We also contributed $300 for Pine River CC to purchase ammunition and other supplies for the day.

In August, we brought in the PF Youth Shooting Trailer to the VF Sports Extravaganza.  During the great event, we signed up 57 Ringneck memberships.

2016 Habitat Summary

St. Clair County had another great year in provide quality habitat for wildlife.

We had 48 local cooperators.  We had 9 local nesting projects cover 34 acres.
We also had a nesting project at Verona State Game Area covering 171.  That was in cooperation with Macomb Pheasants Forever and a DNR Minigrant.  Congratulations are in order to Bill VanderZouwen, our PF regional rep.  He secured a second grant for Verona which multiplies our money contribution at rate of $9 for $1 we put in.

We had 44 local food plot projects covering 172 acres.  We also had a 1 acre pollinator by a Scout group at Perch Point Conservation Club.

Through our successful DNR mini-grant and along with Macomb PF, we did 64 acres of enhanced brush removal.

In the Lapeer State Game Area, we partnered with Lapeer PF and secured a mini-grant to put in 100 acres of disking and interseeding.  In the Lapeer State Game areas, we did    100 acres of mowing, getting ready for the 2017 season.

For several years, we have been trying to get the Local DNR to make improvements for pheasant habitat on the Port Huron State Game Area.  Previously, we have been unsuccessful to get projects underway, even though we offered substantial cash contributions.   This year, we did get a project on the PHSGA with a 40 acre disking and interseeding of a pollinator/forb mix to enhance the quality of the field.  Other projects are being considered for 2017.   Projects being considered for PHGA and St. Clair Flats area.

For 2017, we are in the running for new minigrants in both the Lapeer State Game Area and the Verona State Game Area.

At the 2016 Pheasants Forever State Convention, President Bill Furtaw was named to the PF “Long Spur Society” in recognition of his many years of service to PF.

At the 2016 State Convention, St. Clair County Pheasants Forever received four framed Certificates of Recogniton.  They were for Banquet Attendance, Significantly Increasing Memberships,  Grassland Acreage Habitat Recognition, and “Conservationists Without Boarders”  recognizing our contributions in working with other chapters on grassland projects, contributions to Youth Outreach Coordinator, Legislative Action Fund, and the Youth Shooting Sports Endowment Fund.

SCCPF donated $300 to Pine River Sportsman Club to help obtain supplies for their Youth Shooting Day.

SCCPF is distributing high quality youth booklets, “Ultimate Youth Shooting Sports Guide” to some area shooting clubs and hunter safety classes

PF Rep. Bill Vander Zouwen has been named the Chairman of the Mich. Pheasant Restoration Initiative Steering Committee.

The collective chapters of PF in Michigan, Michigan PF State Council, was a sponsor of the “Camo at the Capitol” event held on the steps of the State Capitol in Lansing.   Pheasants Forever has obtained a seat on the Legislative Sportsman’s Caucas Advisory Council to advise our State Legislators.  Along with our PF National Legislative Action, the voice of our members is being heard.

Our 2015 30th Annual Banquet was one of most successful ever!  We had only a couple open seats. The near-sellout crowd helped us raise near-record level of funds to put towards habitat improvement, conservation education, and youth activities.  Let a Board member know if you aware of activities that align with our mission and should be considered for some support from St. Clair County Pheasants Forever.
