We are pleased to report another successful year for
wildlife habitat improvement projects by local members.
This year, we had 56 habitat cooperators. Seed was distributed to plant 205
acres of food plots. 60 acres of
nesting habitat (pasture mix) was also distributed. Collectively, over $9,000
in seed cost alone was spent this year to improve habitat in St. Clair County.
This year, St. Clair County Pheasants Forever paid for 80%
of the seed cost with the individual habitat cooperator covering 20% of the
cost. For past few years,
fertilizer costs have been covered by the cooperator.
In an effort to support the Michigan Pheasant Restoration
Initiative and create some large blocks of grassland pheasant nesting
habitat, St. Clair Co. Pheasants
Forever Board of Directors voted to invest $1500 in the habitat improvement
project in the Verona State Game Area in Huron County. The Vernoa area is one the target areas
strategically chosen by the State to beginning the Pheasant Restoration
Project.
